Following the completion of this online learning package, health providers will appreciate the challenges and strengths of young pregnant and parenting women. This includes recognising developmentally normal characteristics of young people associated with brain development throughout adolescence.

Health providers will explore practical ways to support young women in the healthcare setting and will hear the voices of young women sharing their personal experiences. Professionals will have increased awareness of childhood trauma and how this can directly affect the developing brain, relationships and behaviour. Health providers will gain a basic understanding of ‘trauma informed care’ in the clinical setting and reflect on the service they provide.

This online learning package will highlight the importance of social inclusion and peer support for young pregnant and parenting women aged 20 and under in the Caboolture region.

Caboolture Hospital health professionals can complete this online package at their own pace. The package can be completed over multiple sessions at home or at work. Four modules will be covered, each with multiple choice questions. Pass rate is 80% with an opportunity to repeat questions.

The “Young, Pregnant & In Control – Helping It Happen” online learning package gives an insight into the challenges faced by young, pregnant women accessing health care. The content has been designed in consultation with young women and features the voices of young people sharing their experiences. This insight gives health professionals a glimpse into the world of young people, sharing their vulnerabilities and their needs when accessing healthcare.

This online learning package has been created in conjunction with the website “Young, Pregnant & In Control” which has been launched simultaneously to provide extensive support and guidance for young, pregnant women in the Caboolture region.
